Introducing the Fenix Large Event Training Program

For years, the hospitality industry has struggled with the same problem. Employers want experienced workers. Workers need experience to get hired. Somewhere between those two realities, an entire generation of potential hospitality professionals gets left behind.

Traditional staffing companies play an important role in our industry. They help businesses respond to fluctuations in demand, fill last minute vacancies, and maintain operations during busy seasons. Many venues could not function without them. The challenge is that staffing companies were never designed to be training organizations. Their responsibility is to provide workers to clients, often on very short timelines. When a client calls needing twenty banquet servers for tomorrow, the expectation is that those workers already know how to perform the job.

In recent years, app based labor platforms have emerged as another solution. These platforms have created incredible flexibility for both workers and employers. A venue can post shifts and quickly connect with available workers. Workers can choose when and where they want to work. For experienced hospitality professionals, these platforms can be a valuable tool. The challenge is that marketplaces are designed to connect talent with opportunity. They are not designed to create talent. The expectation is still that the worker arrives with the necessary skills, experience, and professionalism already in place.

As a result, the industry continues to face the same fundamental problem. Employers are searching for experienced workers. Staffing companies are searching for experienced workers. Labor marketplaces are searching for experienced workers. Everyone is competing for the same limited pool of talent while very few organizations are actively creating new talent.

At Fenix Workforce Foundation, we believe the solution is not simply finding experienced workers. The solution is creating them.

That belief led to the development of the Fenix Pro Large Event Training Program (LET Program). The LET Program bridges the gap between workforce entry and workforce readiness. Through structured training, mentorship, and supervised live event experience, participants develop the skills, professionalism, and confidence needed to succeed in hospitality and event operations.

Participants learn the fundamentals of hospitality, event operations, customer service, professionalism, teamwork, and workplace expectations. More importantly, they have the opportunity to apply those lessons during actual events while working alongside experienced trainers and mentors. They are not being thrown into an unfamiliar environment and expected to figure it out on their own. They are learning through guided experience.

This distinction matters because experience cannot be taught entirely in a classroom. Hospitality is a profession learned through repetition, observation, and real world practice. Reading about banquet service is not the same as serving a banquet. Watching a video about event operations is not the same as being part of a team that successfully executes an event. The confidence that employers seek comes from experience, and experience must be intentionally created.

The LET Program is not intended to replace staffing companies, nor is it intended to compete with labor marketplaces. Those models serve important functions within the hospitality ecosystem. The LET Program addresses a different challenge altogether. It focuses on developing the next generation of hospitality professionals before they enter those systems.

The hospitality industry does not have a worker problem. It has a training problem.

We cannot continue expecting experienced workers to appear without investing in the process that creates them. If we want stronger teams, better service, and higher standards across the industry, we must be willing to train, mentor, and develop people before we expect them to perform at a professional level.

The Fenix Pro Large Event Training Program was built with that purpose in mind. Because everyone wants experienced workers, but somebody has to create them.

At Fenix Workforce Foundation, we are committed to creating pathways that transform potential into opportunity through training, mentorship, and real world experience. The LET Program represents our commitment to building a stronger workforce, one trained and experienced professional at a time.
